DUBAI // Three men who stole precious stones worth Dh10,800 from a company in Al Barsha have been arrested, police said.

The Asian gang allegedly robbed the stones from the company’s safe and were arrested while trying to escape the country.

Maj Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant to the Dubai Police chief, said that the owner of the company was outside the country at the time of the incident.

“Police have carried out an intensive investigation and arrested the first suspect. The suspect admitted to planning to steal the precious stones,” he said.

The suspect said that he kept an eye on the owner’s son, monitoring him through surveillance cameras to learn the safe’s code, according to police.

He is then said to have stolen the stones and gave them to the other two suspects.

Police arrested the other two as they tried to leave the country and recovered the precious stones.

Police have referred the case to prosecutors.
