DUBAI // A carpenter who posed as a policeman to take part in the gang-rape of a waitress was today sentenced to three years in prison.
MK, a 26-year-old from Bangladesh, was arrested two years after the attack as he was trying to leave the country.
He and two others - who remain at large - posed as police officers to lure the waitress into their car late at night. The waitress, 33 at the time, had finished work and was walking to a grocery shop near her house at about 2am when their green car pulled up alongside her.
The three men stepped out and asked for her identification papers, saying they were policemen.
They then hustled her into the car and gagged and blindfolded her. When she struggled they slapped her. Then then took her to a flat and forced her to have sex with them.
Early the next morning they dragged her into a car and assaulted her, stealing her watch, ring, earrings and Dh200. They then dropped her at a bus station with Dh50.
The waitress wrote down their number plate and reported them to police.
The carpenter will be deported after serving his jail time.

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.
A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.
Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.
A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.
On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.
The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.
Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.
The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.
