DUBAI // Police have arrested three men on suspicion of murdering a man and burying his body near the Omani border in 2007.
Officers said they received information about the killing of MR, a 46-year-old Pakistani man, in Al Ghubaiba in Sharjah. They said no missing person report had been filed before the tip-off.
Brig Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Dubai's director of CID, said he believed MR had been involved in a financial dispute with four other Pakistanis living in Sharjah.
"The men lured the victim to their home and got him drunk before killing him that night," he said.
The next day, the killers are believed to have carried MR's body to Al Rawda, near the Omani border, and buried him.
Investigations revealed that MR was married to an Arabic woman, who has a 17-year-old and an 11-year-old child by him.
However, the couple had not been in touch since a divorce.
"We also discovered that he had relatives visiting the country but none of them searched or reported him missing," said Brig Gen Al Mansouri. "He seemed to have been all alone."
A search launched with the Royal Oman Police failed to find the man's body. However, decomposed body parts were found that police say belonged to MR.
The three men were arrested in Sharjah.
The defendants have been referred to Sharjah prosecutors.
