A Sharjah schoolteacher who was found guilty of endangering the safety of a pupil by forcing him to walk barefoot in the summer heat has had her verdict overturned.
The grade eight teacher was hit with a Dh10,000 fine by Sharjah Criminal Court in August.
She was said to have made the child, 14, walk barefoot in the midday heat after he wore inappropriate shoes to class.
The incident in question took place on May 5, 2018.
The woman's defence lawyer told an appeal hearing the teacher had given the pupil repeated warnings not to wear the footwear, which had spikes, to school.
“The pupil, who was 14 at the time, snapped at her, insulted her, then took off the shoes himself and threw it at her before walking out of her office cursing,” said the lawyer.
Sharjah Appeal Court cleared the teacher, citing insufficient evidence.
