A prolific criminal gang was eventually caught after carrying out its fourth raid on the same Dubai warehouse - thanks to a security guard the robbers tied up and assaulted.
The Pakistani men, aged 39, 27 and 26, managed to evade justice after three thefts at the site in Jebel Ali Port.
However, they returned to the scene of the crime to steal more than Dh12,000-worth of electric cables on September 22 last year, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
During the gang's last raid on the contracting company warehouse, they threatened, attacked and tied up a 20-year-old guard, stealing his mobile phone and the contents of his wallet, before fleeing with the haul of cable.
Prosecutors said the 26-year-old defendant gained access to the area with his port entry permit. The gang stole a warehouse key from their victim who later freed himself and alerted police. The court also heard the offenders caused Dh5,000-worth of damage to surveillance cameras at the site.
A police lieutenant, 29, said officers arrested two of the defendants at an undisclosed location.
“Both admitted the offence during questioning and explained how they went to rob the warehouse only to realize there was a security guard. They attacked him and executed the mission. They sold the cable to a scrap dealer and shared the proceeds.”
The third member of the gang was arrested shortly after and all three admitted during questioning to forming a gang, robbery, confinement, issuing threats and damaging property. The trio received a three-year jail sentence.
All three men will be deported once they have served their jail terms.
