The Criminal Investigation Department of Ras Al Khaimah Police arrested a nine-member gang that specialised in robbing large commercial stores and travel agencies in the emirate.

The arrest was made in cooperation with the police headquarters of Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas, director of the criminal investigation department, said that the police had lately received a number of theft reports from department stores and travel and tourism agencies in RAK.

Victims reported cases of breaking and entering and robbery of cash contents from safes. In some cases, the safes were entirely removed.

He added that an investigation team was formed to collect evidence, which led to identifying a group of suspects that were put under surveillance.

An investigation revealed that the main suspect resided in Sharjah and was arrested in cooperation with Sharjah Police.

He confessed his involvement in various robberies across the country and said he was assisted by a group of men of the same nationality who have entered the country illegally. The men had previously been residents, and were convicted of robbery and mendicancy and were deported after having served their sentences.

They were arrested at their place of residence in Ajman in cooperation with that emirate’s police.
