Three men who attacked a man outside his home in Dubai have each been sentenced to one year in prison.

The gang struck the 35-year-old victim with a brick, leaving him with a fractured skull, after he refused to hand over his wallet and mobile phone.

The assault took place at about 1am on January 25 last year, shortly after the Pakistani man had parked his car outside his home in Al Muraqqabat.

“Two of the men attacked me seconds after I parked my car at around 1am,” the victim said in evidence.

“They demanded I hand them my mobile phone and wallet but I walked away.”

The men only halted the sustained attack after an ambulance called by witnesses arrived at the scene.

Two of the group – aged 22 and 30 and from Pakistan – were arrested soon after, while the third man remains at large.

Dubai Criminal Court heard the driver now suffers from memory loss as a result of his injuries.

The two defendants in court denied physical assault.

All three assailants were handed one-year prison terms to be followed by deportation.
