A man was arrested at Dubai International Airport for carrying more than six kilograms of marijuana.

The 32-year-old arrived on January 9 this year, when customs officers identified a suspicious box in his luggage.

All his luggage was then scanned.

"The results showed that the box contained thick material,” said an Emirati customs inspector.

Officers opened the box, found six plastic items inside and each was filled with a substance.

“We believe these were marijuana seeds," the inspector said.

The Indian man denied the drugs belonged to him and said he did not know anything about it.

Officers detained the man and laboratory tests later confirmed the concealed substance was marijuana.

Medical tests showed that the man had not been using drugs.

The man was charged with possessing drugs to sell, which he denies.

A verdict will be announced at Dubai Criminal Court on June 22.
