Man assaulted police during drugs raid at his home, court hears

A suspect assaulted a police officer during a drugs raid at his Dubai home, a court heard.

Officers swooped on the Al Rashidiya address of the Emirati man after receiving a tip-off he was in possession of drugs.

But when officers arrived at his home on May 16, he allegedly lashed out in a bid to evade arrest.

The 20-year-old kicked one of the officers in the groin, forcing him to crumble to the ground, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The police officer, 27, had to be taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Officers said they had to use a stun gun to subdue the accused and bring him into custody.

“He resisted us, hitting and pushing us to try to escape arrest, then he kicked the officer in the groin,” said a police lieutenant.

Police seized 42 tablets from the defendant's bedroom, while a medical examination found he was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.

The man denied charges of resisting arrest, assaulting police, possession and use of drugs at a court hearing on Sunday.

He said he had a prescription for the use of the tablets recovered from his home, but did not present any documentation as evidence.

The case was adjourned until October 15, when a verdict is expected to be passed.
