DUBAI // There was no fairy tale ending for a red-toothed thief  and his shoeless accomplice yesterday when they were both sentenced to three months in prison for stealing a handbag.

After the theft, police tracked them down by the first man’s distinctive red tooth, and by a shoe the second man left at the scene of the crime. Police asked him to put on the shoe and, the officers said, it fit “perfectly”.

P?P, 26, from India, and P?A, 22, from Bangladesh, attacked and robbed the woman on December 24 last year as she was returning to her apartment building.

The pair had earlier pestered  her for sex, believing her to be a prostitute.

“How much do you charge for sex, [the red-toothed man] asked me, and I told him to go away because I don’t have sex for money,” recalled the woman, from Uganda.

The men continued to harass her as she entered a lift and they snatched her handbag as the door was closing. She clung on to the bag and was pulled to the floor.

The red-toothed man then dragged the woman out of the lift, punched her and kicked her before running away with his accomplice.

“I told the officers to have him show me his teeth and when he did, I saw the red tooth. It was him, I was 100 per cent sure,” the woman said.

His accomplice was arrested in a nearby flat where he was asked to try on the shoe.
