DUBAI // A husband who had been arrested for threatening his wife told her he would have her and her mother sexually assaulted unless the charges against him were dropped, a court heard yesterday.
The assault threat, made during a telephone call, was recorded, prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court.
Pakistani MF, 34, called his wife EA, 24, twice on May 8 while under police investigation. He had been detained following a complaint by his wife but the court records did not specify the reason.
Unknown to the husband, his calls were being recorded.
"He tried many times to convince me to drop charges but when I didn't, he threatened me and my mother," said the wife.
Prosecutors said the husband confessed after listening to the recordings.
He told prosecutors he was desperate when he made the threats because he had been arrested, was unemployed and in need of money.
He denied a charge of issuing threats to kill, saying: "I was in detention when she claims this happened."
A verdict is expected on September 24.
