DUBAI // Three women and a man were sentenced to prison today for luring a female visitor, locking her up and forcing her into prostitution.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced ZM, 44, a visitor, and ST, a 30-year-old nanny, both Pakistanis, to 10 years in prison followed by deportation for human trafficking.

MF, the only male defendant, 28, also Pakistani, will spend six months in prison for deceiving the victim. He got her to come to Dubai after promising her a job at a beauty salon, but after she arrived, ZM and ST beat her, locked her up and forced her into the sex trade. He will be deported following his prison term.
SP, 26, from India, will spend six months in prison before being deported for her role in marketing the victim to customers and for working as a prostitute herself.
According to records, the 31-year-old victim was approached by a woman who knew ST, and was told that ST could find her a good job in Dubai.
When the victim, also Pakistani, arrived in Dubai on December 31, she was taken from Dubai International Airport to an apartment near the Marco Polo Hotel in Deira, her testimony shows.
She said two Pakistani women and a Russian woman worked as prostitutes there. She noted that she heard SP tell someone over the phone that she had a new girl for Dh100 per hour.
The victim said a man came and raped her, and then SP beat her because she refused to have sex with the man. She said she spent three days at the apartment and was raped by more than five men.
Then she was moved to another apartment in Al Baraha and forced to have sex with more men, records said.
On January 7, she was taken to a villa. She said that she started writing "help me" notes and throwing them out the window, and after a few days police raided the villa and arrested everyone, records show.
Records show that passers-by saw the notes and called police.

Find the right policy for you
Don’t wait until the week you fly to sign up for insurance – get it when you book your trip. Insurance covers you for cancellation and anything else that can go wrong before you leave.
Some insurers, such as World Nomads, allow you to book once you are travelling – but, as Mr Mohammed found out, pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.
Check your credit card before booking insurance to see if you have any travel insurance as a benefit – most UAE banks, such as Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, have cards that throw in insurance as part of their package. But read the fine print – they may only cover emergencies while you’re travelling, not cancellation before a trip.
Pre-existing medical conditions such as a heart condition, diabetes, epilepsy and even asthma may not be included as standard. Again, check the terms, exclusions and limitations of any insurance carefully.
If you want trip cancellation or curtailment, baggage loss or delay covered, you may need a higher-grade plan, says Ambareen Musa of Souqalmal.com. Decide how much coverage you need for emergency medical expenses or personal liability. Premium insurance packages give up to $1 million (Dh3.7m) in each category, Ms Musa adds.
Don’t wait for days to call your insurer if you need to make a claim. You may be required to notify them within 72 hours. Gather together all receipts, emails and reports to prove that you paid for something, that you didn’t use it and that you did not get reimbursed.
Finally, consider optional extras you may need, says Sarah Pickford of Travel Counsellors, such as a winter sports holiday. Also ensure all individuals can travel independently on that cover, she adds. And remember: “Cheap isn’t necessarily best.”
Three ways to boost your credit score
Marwan Lutfi says the core fundamentals that drive better payment behaviour and can improve your credit score are:
1. Make sure you make your payments on time;
2. Limit the number of products you borrow on: the more loans and credit cards you have, the more it will affect your credit score;
3. Don't max out all your debts: how much you maximise those credit facilities will have an impact. If you have five credit cards and utilise 90 per cent of that credit, it will negatively affect your score.

Day 1, Abu Dhabi Test: At a glance
Moment of the day Dimuth Karunaratne had batted with plenty of pluck, and no little skill, in getting to within seven runs of a first-day century. Then, while he ran what he thought was a comfortable single to mid-on, his batting partner Dinesh Chandimal opted to stay at home. The opener was run out by the length of the pitch.
Stat of the day - 1 One six was hit on Day 1. The boundary was only breached 18 times in total over the course of the 90 overs. When it did arrive, the lone six was a thing of beauty, as Niroshan Dickwella effortlessly clipped Mohammed Amir over the square-leg boundary.
The verdict Three wickets down at lunch, on a featherbed wicket having won the toss, and Sri Lanka’s fragile confidence must have been waning. Then Karunaratne and Chandimal's alliance of precisely 100 gave them a foothold in the match. Dickwella’s free-spirited strokeplay meant the Sri Lankans were handily placed at 227 for four at the close.
