ABU DHABI // A father and son accused of embezzling Dh995,000 were today cleared by the Appeals Court, which ordered their accuser to pay them Dh993,000 instead.
The two Palestinian men were in charge of a project to build five 35-floor towers near Zayed Sports City. They filed a labour lawsuit against their Emirati partner after finishing the seventh floor when he failed to pay them their wages or costs.
The partner retaliated by filing ten cases accusing them of embezzlement. He claimed they embezzled Dh995,000 from the Dh2 billion project. However, the court cleared them of all charges - the latest of which was heard today. The court also ordered the partner to pay them Dh993,000 for the wages and costs he owed them.
The two men were out on bail, but were previously jailed for periods of up to two months at a time on three separate occasions, as the lawsuits kept stacking up against them.
