Fake goods worth Dh100m seized in Abu Dhabi

More than 1,300 counterfeit items have been taken out of circulation in the capital in 2018

Fake goods worth more than Dh100 million have been seized this year as Abu Dhabi Police step up their counterfeits crackdown.

Officers have taken more than 1,300 products - purporting to be from a variety of international brands - off the streets as part of the ongoing campaign against rogue traders.

The counterfeit items included jewellery, clothing, cosmetics, wallets and medical equipment.

Brigadier Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, acting director of the force's criminal security department, said the series of raids proves that police are determined to clampdown on criminal activity.

The police chief said knock-off products can prove costly not only to companies but also consumers.
