DUBAI // An electrician threatened a police officer who fined him for parking illegally, a court heard today.

Prosecutors said HF, 36, from Syria, threatened to chase the policeman MM, 45, a Yemeni, and "put him in trouble" after receiving the fine for parking on the pavement.

The policeman noticed the infringement on November 28. "He asked me to forgive him but he was talking too much so I just handed him the fine and left," he recalled.

He said he received a phone call from the electrician asking him once again to waive the fine. "I don't know where he got my phone number but I received a call from him and he asked me again to waive the fine," said the policeman.

He said the electrician told him: "I will chase you all the time you are on duty and I will put you in trouble". The electrician also threatened to "make an example" of the policeman, boasting that he had framed another officer who fined him.

"He also swore at me and told me that I was filthy," said the policeman.

At the Criminal Court the electrician denied making the threats.

The next hearing was scheduled for July 8.

Labour dispute

The insured employee may still file an ILOE claim even if a labour dispute is ongoing post termination, but the insurer may suspend or reject payment, until the courts resolve the dispute, especially if the reason for termination is contested. The outcome of the labour court proceedings can directly affect eligibility.
