An investigation into a British woman arrested after making a rape claim in Dubai has been closed, the state news agency, WAM, has reported. The woman, who is of Pakistani origin, was arrested having made a claim of rape against an Indian employee of The Address hotel in Dubai marina last month. Media reports said she was arrested for having sex outside of marriage with a man who was reported to be her boyfriend.

In a statement to WAM, Dubai's Attorney General, Essam al Humaidan, said Dubai Public Prosecution "has completed the investigation and decided to close the charge against the Indian worker for raping the British girl as the incident didn't happen." The charge against the woman was dropped, he said, "after the duo furnished the court with a marriage certificate dated 17 November 2009", while the incident took place on 31 December 2009. He said that they would stand trial only for consuming alcohol without permission.
