A wanted man who swallowed nearly one kilogram of heroin and crystal meth in order to smuggle it into the UAE has been handed a 10-year jail sentence.
The haul of 96 capsules were found in the drug mule's stomach after he was held by police on arrival at Dubai International Airport, who executed an existing arrest warrant against him.
Dubai Criminal Court heard that the 32-year-old Pakistani man was caught out after being asked to pass through an X-ray machine at the airport on July 15 of this year.
“There was an arrest warrant against him, so when he landed, drug control police at the airport brought him to us to check his luggage for any illegals,” said a customs inspector at the airport.
He said the man's luggage was searched but when nothing was found he was asked to go through the X-ray, which "detected strange objects inside his stomach".
After being taken to Rashid hospital, court records said that 96 capsules stuffed with drugs were released out of his stomach.
The criminal laboratory confirmed that 42 capsules contained heroin, while the remaining 54 were filled with crystal meth.
It was not disclosed in records why the arrest warrant was issued against the man or whether police were tipped prior to his arrival.
When he appeared in court last month, he denied a drug smuggling charge and said that he was not aware of the nature of the substance he swallowed.
The accused allegedly admitted to carrying drugs in return for money.
He was supposed to deliver the narcotics to a man in Dubai who would later sell them.
He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined Dh50,000, to be followed by deportation.

Do your homework

Women tend to be a bit more reticent to talk about their achievements. In my experience they need to have more confidence in their own abilities – men will big up what they’ve done to get a pay rise, and to compete women need to turn up the volume.
Work together
If you suspect men in your organisation are being paid more, look your boss in the eye and say, “I want you to assure me that I’m paid equivalent to my peers”. If you’re not getting a straight answer, talk to your peer group and consider taking direct action to fix inequality.

How do Sim card scams work?
Sim swap frauds are a form of identity theft.
They involve criminals conning mobile phone operators into issuing them with replacement Sim cards by claiming to be the victim, often pretending their phone has been lost or stolen in order to secure a new Sim.
They use the victim's personal details - obtained through criminal methods - to convince such companies of their identity.
