Dh1m villa burglary brings three-year sentence

Three men broke into a Jumeirah house and stole a safe containing many valuables, prosecutors say.

DUBAI // Three men will spend three years in prison each for stealing a safe from a villa in Jumeirah that contained valuables worth more than Dh1 million, a Dubai court ruled today.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ruled that the Senegali MK, 38; and ED, 34, and OS, 42, used a screwdriver to break into FA's villa and steal a safe from his bedroom on September 26, 2010.

The incident took place after FA and his family left the house to visit some friends. They returned a few hours later to find the door to the villa unlocked, records said.

The 36-year-old FA, a company owner, told prosecutors the safe contained jewellery worth more than Dh200,000; Dh29,260 in cash; nine chequebooks for FA's company; a cheque for Dh1.2m; a laptop; and several credit cards.

AM, a police captain, said several other similar burglaries had been reported in the same area. He said the three men were arrested shortly after breaking into AF's villa, and AF identified some of his belongings at the defendants' residence.
