DUBAI // A woman managed to smuggle drugs through five airports before being arrested in Dubai carrying "a large amount" of cocaine, police said today.
The woman, AM, from an unidentified African country, told police: "I was surprised that I was discovered here as I have carried out similar smuggling attempts in five other countries and I was not discovered."
The arrest was made at the end of last month after police noticed she was acting nervous and became suspicious. Details were only released today.
AM was travelling from Sao Paulo to Durban via Dubai when police at Terminal Three of Dubai International Airport asked to search her.
The drugs were found in a brown plastic bag taped under the lining of her suitcase. Police declined to disclose the amount seized.
She reportedly had been asked to transfer the cocaine to South Africa in return for US$3,000 (Dh11,000) plus her hotel accommodation and ticket.
The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
