DUBAI // A 72-year-old man molested two young sisters while they were playing in front of their family's apartment building, a court was told this morning.
EA, of Lebanon, was not present to enter a plea at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.
Prosecutors said that on December 4 of last year, the Sudanese 9-year-old MK and her 8-year-old sister, RK, were approached by the defendant while they were on the playground at their Green Community residence.
"He asked me what my father's name was then touched me in private places," RK said in court records.
Prosecutors said he pulled down the underwear of both girls, and touched their private parts and abdomens.
He told them he was a French language teacher and asked them to speak some French with him.
MK said in her testimony that EA was a "bad person". She said she tried to stop him then ran away to her apartment and told her mother. She added that her sister tried to follow her, but EA would not allow her to do so.
"She was screaming at me, 'Help me, help me," MK said.
The girls' mother, AS, 34, was talking on the phone and was distracted at the time of the incident. She said she saw the defendant standing near her daughters.
When MK told her mother about what had happened, AS could see her younger daughter standing in fear in the playground, and could see the defendant standing at the corner of the playground. She yelled for RK to come to the apartment, then called her husband and the police.
The defendant will be summoned for the next hearing on March 28.
