Dubai Police have named eight Israelis arrested in connection with the fatal assault of a compatriot in Dubai on Wednesday evening.

The force on Thursday named the dead man as Ghassan Shamsyeh, 33.

Police said the incident stemmed from a family dispute involving the parties, which was linked to the murder of a 24-year-old man in Israel on May 6.

"The eight suspects involved in the assault had arrived from a European country for tourism and shopping," Dubai Police said.

"They were strolling in the Business Bay area in Dubai when they encountered the victim in a cafe, leading to a confrontation and a mutual assault that eventually resulted in the death of the victim due to the use of a sharp tool."

Dubai Police released the names and images of the eight men on social media.

The suspects have been referred to Dubai Public Prosecution, police said.

“The force is devoted to ensuring the highest levels of safety and security in the emirate and to bringing offenders to justice,” said Lt Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police.
