Couple tied up, threatened with death and robbed of Dh855,000, Dubai court hears

The married couple were tied up and robbed on June 7 at their home in Jebel Ali

Two men gagged and tied up a couple after breaking into their villa then stole Dh1m from them, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On June 7, a 24-year-old Pakistani man and his accomplice, who is at large, broke into the villa in Jebel Ali then restrained the married couple by tying up their legs and arms, prosecutors said.

The men also allegedly restrained their cook and cleaner using ropes and gagged all four of them using duct tape.

Records show that the pair threatened to kill them all with a knife and demanded to know where their money and valuables were kept.
The men allegedly threatened the victims, whose ages and nationalities were not mentioned in records, against resisting and demanded they remain motionless while they stole Dh855,000 in cash from the husband's bedroom.

Prosecutors said the two men then used the victim's Jaguar to flee with the cash.
Three other Pakistani defendants, two salesmen and a driver, aged between 30 and 42, were accused of possessing some of the stolen money.

The salesmen told police officers during questioning that the pair who allegedly robbed the villa gave them Dh100,000 each and asked them to transfer the money to their families in Pakistan.

"But we didn't know it was stolen," two of the men said.
In court on Tuesday, the 24-year-old accused admitted to charges of confinement, issuing death threats, robbery, and stealing the victim's car.
One of the three others accused denied a charge of possessing stolen money.
The three remaining men were not present in court to face a charge of possessing stolen money.
Police said they seized Dh500,000 found with the defendants and managed to retrieve Dh200,000 that was transferred to Pakistan.
Court records did not disclose how the victims were freed and who called police.
The next hearing will be held on November 19.
