A couple in their forties has been rescued by police after losing their way in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah.

RAK police said on Saturday that the couple were exploring the mountains and lost their way back to the car.

“We received a call at 6pm on Thursday from one of the couple saying they had lost their way and couldn't locate their car. We immediately formed a rescue team along with paramedics and were dispatched to the area,” said Major Tarek Al Sharhan, head of the emergency and rescue department at RAK Police.

“The couple managed to send us their location via Whatsapp before losing connectivity. The rescue team were looking for them for around three hours because of poor connectivity and darkness,” he said.

The couple live in another emirate and do not know the area well.

“They started their journey at around 9am and when they decided to go back they couldn’t as they didn’t know the area so well,” said Major Al Sharhan.

They were found at 9pm and were provided with first aid before taking them back to their car.

Brig Mohammed Al Humaidi, director general of central operations at RAK Police, urged mountain goers to adhere to safety conditions, be fully equipped, exercise caution and coordinate with the authorities to ensure safety.
