DUBAI // A cook who attacked his flatmate and knocked out four of his teeth because the man objected to a cricket game being too loud on the television was sentenced in absentia to six months on Wednesday.

The Indian cook, MAS, 42, was convicted of an assault that caused fellow Indian MS, 54, five per cent permanent disability after the incident on April 11 last year.

“It was 6.30am when I woke up to the loud sound of the TV because MAS had turned up the volume to the max,” said the victim. “I objected that the voice was very loud and asked him to lower it and, as I walked back to my room, he came towards me and punched me on the face, breaking a tooth of mine.”

MS recalled falling to the ground and then the cook attacked him again, kicking him in the face, breaking three more teeth and his jaw.

The victim called police, who took him to hospital and arrested MAS.

The attacker was not present in court to enter a plea and was sentenced in absentia.
