DUBAI // A convict who set his blanket on fire for entertainment then left his cell to catch fire was sentenced to three months in jail.
Dubai Criminal Court convicted Emirati HA, 20, who is serving a prison term at the central jail, of setting fire to a cell and causing Dh77 worth of damage, which he has been ordered to repay.
Records said he used a cigarette to start the fire on the afternoon of September 30, 2012. However, it was not clear in records why the case took so long to make it to court.
“It was nearly 5.30pm when I noticed smoke on the cameras coming out of one of the cells,” said a prison warden. “I reported it right away then headed to the location of the cell where I knew that HA had started the fire.”
