DUBAI // Two companies have been fined more than Dh2 million for violating residency laws.
The companies were employing labourers who had residency rights granted by RAK Investment Authority, but were not cleared to work in Dubai.
“Inspectors visited the first site and found 420 of the 800 labourers working illegally. In the second site there were a further 145 labourers working illegally,” said prosecutor Ali Hameed Bin Khatam.
“The labourers’ residencies were issued by RAK Investment Authority but they were not allowed to relocate to sites outside RAK unless they obtained permission from the Ministry of lLabour which they had not,” he added.
The court fined the first company Dh2m and the second company Dh500,000.

The more serious side of specialty coffee
While the taste of beans and freshness of roast is paramount to the specialty coffee scene, so is sustainability and workers’ rights.
The bulk of genuine specialty coffee companies aim to improve on these elements in every stage of production via direct relationships with farmers.
