It’s a phrase that has been kicking around photo departments for years: ‘pictures of people taking pictures. First with the boom of digital point and shoot cameras, and later with smart phones putting a camera in everyone’s pocket both the phrase and the photos it refers to have become more and more prevalent and almost cliche. However, this image shot by Pawan Singh while on assignment covering an international cricket match in Sharjah is something quite different. By putting the emphasis back on the people and away from the LCD screens the image becomes a study in human nature and our our affinity for sports heroes.
