I conducted two completely different interviews a few weeks ago and both revolved around the same subject: horses.
My first interview took place in Dubai. Emirati jewellery designer Salama Khafan loves horses and travelling. Her inspiration behind her jewellery line is her horse Penelope. I went to her house and was able to see the passion towards what she is doing. It was all around her place. You could tell that she surrounded herself with everything beautiful to be constantly inspired.
The second was a telephone interview with Emirati artist Moosa Al Halyan, who is exhibiting at the UAE pavilion at the ongoing Venice Biennale in Italy. He also considers the horse as his source of creativity, and says people regardless of culture or age can relate to the graceful animal.
These interactions have taught me appreciate art and design, and I will make sure to surround myself with beautiful things so that I can be inspired. After all, inspiration is what my name, “Elham”, means.
