As it is summer things are a little bit quieter here in the sports department at the moment, with no major local events going on at present with the temperatures so high.
But sport must still produce eight broadsheet pages a day in the print section, and then of course there is the website to keep updated too, so while there is less going on locally the need for content remains high.
It is tough to find stories and think of new ideas for fresh stories, but that is what I am doing at present.
The next upcoming project I have been asked to work on involves finding local athletes for the Ramadan series. Now this is another challenge since all those athletes will be occupied with their family and fasting and it will be hard getting a hold of them. Ramadan will be different for the whole department and I have to understand how it will work during Ramadan.
I also like to write opinion stories if there is no hard news, maybe just to put my thoughts into an opinion story.
One story I was working is about Alvaro Morata the Spanish player in Juventus, my whole premise of the story if he is worth the money if Real Madrid will try to buy him back or is he even ready to be back.
Of course, not everyone will agree with me but it is something I wanted to write.
I had a go at writing this and was given feedback on what improvements I needed to make to it for the section to run it.
What I like about the sports department is the constant push they give me, I might not be the best writer yet but I would like to share my ideas.
Ideas do not come in easily, especially at this time of year, but I am persistent to look for stories and it will be hard to step up to the challenge.
The good news is I always have reporters and editors helping me with story ideas and are willing to help me, that will help me grow and in long-term I would no longer need help, or not as much, to help me achieve my goals.
