A cleaner who claimed the devil forced him to molest a five-year-old girl has been jailed for a year.
Dubai Criminal Court heard how the Pakistani defendant, 21, sexually assaulted the youngster while her Nigerian parents were out.
Giving evidence, the girl’s grandmother told how she had been babysitting the girl and her newborn brother when the man took advantage of the youngster.
She said she realised something had happened when the man stormed out of the apartment and her granddaughter began behaving strangely.
“I was babysitting the girl and her newborn brother,” she told the court. “I went to another room for about 20 minutes and when I returned, he [the defendant] stormed out leaving the door open.
“I asked her [the granddaughter] what happened and she said he did bad things to her. Then I asked her to describe these things and she did.”
The incident took place in the family’s apartment in Deira, Dubai, at around 6.30pm on November 30 last year.
The next day, the girl’s father called police and the man was arrested. He was convicted and sentenced, to be followed by deportation.
