DUBAI // An RTA bus driver charged with molesting a female passenger has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Indian S S, 32, directed the woman to sit on a box next to him on March 5 because there were no seats available.
When the Egyptian woman, M H, 37, went to lean on the box next to the driver, she said he stretched his arm out and touched her behind.
She said she started crying then decided to call the police.
The driver denied molestation, saying that he stretched his hand as a habit and must have touched the woman by mistake.
He told prosecutors that the woman was chubby and, as she sat back, this caused his hand to come into contact with her behind.
“I didn’t touch her — she leaned back and, when her body came on my hand, I pulled my hand back,” the driver said.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Wednesday, the driver SS was found guilty and sentenced to six months, to be followed by deportation.

Short-term let permits explained
Homeowners and tenants are allowed to list their properties for rental by registering through the Dubai Tourism website to obtain a permit.
Tenants also require a letter of no objection from their landlord before being allowed to list the property.
There is a cost of Dh1,590 before starting the process, with an additional licence fee of Dh300 per bedroom being rented in your home for the duration of the rental, which ranges from three months to a year.
Anyone hoping to list a property for rental must also provide a copy of their title deeds and Ejari, as well as their Emirates ID.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
