Siblings attacked Portuguese victim during a night out with his wife

Two British brothers knocked out a front tooth of a Portuguese resident who was enjoying an evening with his wife and friends, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.

The assault took placed in Dubai International Financial Centre on May 11 when the victim intervened in an argument between the brothers and their female friend.

After telling the duo to calm down, one of them attacked him, knocking out a tooth. When his wife tried to step in, she was shoved to the floor.

“I tried to stop them but suddenly one of them chocked me and then started punching me in the face,” the victim testified.

“I nearly fainted."

After the assault, the father of the brothers approached the group to apologise for the actions of his two sons.

“The men’s father hurried towards us and started asking us to excuse his sons for their behaviour,” said one of the group.

On realising the police had been called, the siblings, aged 27 and 30, ran off, the hearing was told.

Police said they were able to track down and arrest the pair four days after the incident, on May 15.

During questioning, the two admitted charges of physical assault but were not present in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing in the case is expected on November 8.
