DUBAI // An Iranian man who raped a saleswoman after claiming to her that he was a policeman was sentenced to three years in jail on Sunday.

M J, 3 4 met his Filipino victim M G, also 34, in an online chatroom and pretended he was an Emirati, his name was Mansour and that he worked in the criminal investigation department at the Dubai Police.

After two months of chatting online, M J requested to meet the victim in person and she agreed.

They went for a meal together and he drove her home.

”The very next day, I told him that my cousin was having problems getting a visa to the UAE and I asked if he could help,” she said.

On October 6 last year, M J called her and requested that they meet so he could advise her how her cousin could obtain a visa. He picked her up and drove her to International City.

“He told me we were going to have dinner at his cousin’s house where his cousin and his girlfriend wanted to meet me,” said M G.

“When we reached the apartment, he opened the door using a key, which made me feel weird as why would he have a key when it’s not his apartment?”

She said he pushed her inside, ripped off her clothes and raped her.

After that he got dressed and drove the woman home.

That evening, the roommate C A, 46, saw the victim crying and told her to call police.

Police officer H A, 27, said: “After we got notified about the rape, the victim gave us the licence plate number of the man’s car, we tracked him down and apprehended him.”

DNA evidence linked the defendant to the woman.

M J confessed to raping the victim at the police station according to records but he was not at the Dubai Criminal Court last February to enter a plea.

He will be deported after completing his jail term.
