Police in Abu Dhabi have released dramatic footage of the moment armed officers smashed their way into the hideout of a gang of phone scammers preying on the public.
Police from Abu Dhabi and Ajman joined forces to bring the 24 criminals - all of Asian descent - to justice in a cross-emirate operation.
In the recording, posted on Abu Dhabi Police's Instagram account, officers round up and arrest the fraudsters at an apartment in Ajman before seizing a stash of phones used as part of their criminal campaign.
Brigadier Imran Ahmed Al Mazrouei, director of the criminal investigations department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the group cheated people out of cash by promising them bogus cash prizes during cold calls.
They asked unsuspecting victims to transfer telephone recharge cards as payment for processing the cash prizes, which they never received.
