DUBAI // An airport worker sentenced to three months in jail for stealing sunglasses from a passenger’s seat has also been fined Dh35 after prosecutors appealed for a harsher punishment.
On August 23 the Nepali, 20, was cleaning a FlyDubai plane when he stole the sunglasses, which had been left behind by a passenger.
He was caught as he was leaving the airport after his shift was over at 9.30am.
“He looked very tense and wouldn’t empty his pockets at first, but then did and said he took them from the aeroplane,” said an Emirati policeman.
He confessed to a theft charge in Dubai Criminal Court and was convicted last November.
The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the sentence but added a fine of Dh35. He will be deported after serving his prison term.
