SHARJAH // A policeman was killed yesterday after being knocked off his motorbike.
The 40-year-old traffic officer was on duty at a road linking Ajman and Sharjah when he was hit by a car driven by an Arab man at about 9am.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene but the officer, from Sudan, died as he was being taken to Khalifa Hospital.
"At the beginning the accident was confusing for Sharjah and Ajman police departments as the accident fell between the two emirates," said a spokesman. "Both police departments responded, but later it was found the accident belonged to Sharjah Police because it fell in their territory despite the officer belonging to Ajman Police."
Officers from Sharjah arrested the driver, who is believed to have been speeding and lost control of his car.
The officer's body was yesterday handed over to his family, who live in Ajman. A funeral was held after Asr prayers at Ajman's Sheikh Zayed Mosque. His body was laid to rest at a cemetery in Ajman's industrial area.
