Acid attack victim died as result of her injuries, Abu Dhabi court told

ABU DHABI // A woman who had acid thrown on her by husband later died of her injuries in hospital in Germany.

The Emirati was attacked by her husband, also Emirati, after she filed for divorce and after discovering he had married a second wife, Abu Dhabi Criminal Court was told.

The divorce was not finalised as the husband was in prison at the time. Upon his release he went to their home and confronted his wife, accusing her of adultery. He checked her phone for proof, but when he could not find any he threw nitric acid on her in front of their three children.

The couple’s eldest son was also splashed with acid but was able to take his mother to hospital.

She was admitted to Al Mafraq hospital before being flown to Germany to be treated by a burns expert but later died of her injuries. The woman suffered second and third degrees burns over 70 per cent of her body.

The husband was arrested shortly after the attack. He failed to show up to court, even though his name was on a list of prisoners brought to court that day.

The judge ordered the reason for his absence to be investigated with the prison’s administration.

Court records did not state when the attack took place. The case was adjourned until October 19.
