Abu Dhabi Police's Traffic and Patrols Directorate sent out awareness leaflets to more than three million people this Ramadan as part of its traffic safety programme, Maan (Together).
Police contacted 3,360,765 people via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Brig Eng Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, the director, said the campaign reached out to just over more than million people on Facebook and 1.25 million on Twitter. A video on YouTube has so far had more than 3,500 hits.
The campaign embodied the directorate's strategy to achieve the highest safety standards possible, and helped make people aware traffic safety is everyone's responsibility, said Brig Al Harthi.
He added the campaign fell under the Maan programme for reducing traffic-related accidents. Under Maan, people have received newsletters, cards and brochures, and have been given access to awareness programmes, educational movies, religious prayers and traffic tips - in addition to taking part in competitions on local radio.
The programme tackled three topics: motorists, pedestrians and vehicle safety.
Abu Dhabi Police also encouraged people to use seatbelts, avoid using mobile phones while driving and respect traffic lights.
