ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi traffic police plan to increase their presence on the emirate’s roads on New Year’s Eve to ensure safety and prevent noise disturbances or “uncivilised behaviour”.

Col Khamis Mohammed, director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said police will strictly enforce the law on reckless drivers who endanger their lives and the lives of other road users.

He urged motorists to follow road rules, respect speed limits, cooperate with police and drive carefully on New Year’s Eve.

Those “under the influence of medications” or who do not feel in full control of their vehicle should not get behind the wheel, as their judgment would be impaired, putting themselves and other road users at risk, he said.

He also called on parents to keep a close watch over their children’s driving and conduct.
