Video footage was released on Wednesday by Abu Dhabi Police showing the person suspected of Monday’s brutal murder of the mother of twin boys in the bathroom of a mall on Reem Island.

The video shows the suspect entering the mall and then fleeing from a chaotic scene about an hour and half later.

Because the killer was wearing an abaya, black gloves and a niqab it was unclear whether the suspect was a man or woman.

The killer stabbed the 37-year-old kindergarten teacher following what witnesses described as an argument in the toilets outside Waitrose supermarket.

The teacher was taken by ambulance to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City but died of her injuries.

Her 11-year-old twins have been placed in the care of the community police as they await arrival of their father, the victim’s ex-husband, from overseas.

Khidmah, the manager of the building, have assured residents of Sun Tower and Sky Tower that it is “working closely with the police and related authorities to fully assist with the investigation, and would also stress that all necessary measures are being undertaken to ensure the care of residents at this delicate time”.

Khidmah added: “We want to reassure our residents that their safety and well-being are our priority, and although this incident has caused shocked and disbelief throughout the community, there is no cause to be concerned for the safety of yourselves and families.”

Col Rashid Bourscheid, director of CID at Abu Dhabi Police said that the reasons for the attack are unknown. He urged anyone with any information to contact police or the Ministry of Interior on 800 2626.
