ABU DHABI // Five people were killed and four others were seriously wounded in a total of 51 alcohol-related accidents in Abu Dhabi in the past eight months, according to the Traffic and Patrols Department (TPD).
About 569 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the same period, the TPD said.
The TPD warned against drink driving, saying that it can cause road fatalities and serious injuries.
It said it was stepping up traffic control through patrols on motorways and city roads in the emirate in an effort to catch and penalise drunk drivers.
