Seventy-eight abandoned buildings have been demolished in different areas of the capital as part of Abu Dhabi Municipality's ongoing campaign to rid the city of old and dilapidated houses and buildings.

These included 10 commercial buildings, 33 residential villas, eight government buildings and 27 porta-cabins.

The buildings were hazardous for residents due to the accumulated dust, waste and weeds, and the presence of insects and rodents that pose health and safety risks, according to Ahmed Fadil Al Mazrooie, director of external centres at the municipality.
