ABU DHABI // The President’s Falconry Cup competitions will begin next week with about 670 participants and 1,500 falcons competing for a prize fund of Dh15 million.
The winners will also be given 41 luxury cars and there will be a chance to win “Falconer of the Season” – which includes a special prize and there will also be a special round for sheikhs.
A hunting round called “Telwah” will be one of the featured competitions. In this, a 400 to 600 metre area will be provided for the participants and the winner will be observed via radar.
Other rounds include those for the public, rounds for young falcons and a round for chick falcons.
Each round is categorised according to falcon species such as jernas, shaheen and jeir. Each category will compete against its same kind.
Registered falcons must take part in anti-doping tests to ensure the games are fair, said Sultan Al Mahmood, the executive director of the Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club.
The competition will be held in Al Falah and will take place on January 15 to 26.
The competition is organized with the collaboration of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
