Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has recently demolished 38 abandoned buildings as part of a campaign to make room for the emirate’s planned development projects.

According to Al Ittihad, The National's sister publication, the municipality first visited the sites and regions and conducted field surveys of old and abandoned buildings. It then contacted their owners to discuss their removal or renovation or to negotiate an exchange for other sites.

The municipality joined forces with the competent authorities to remove the old abandoned houses, farms and shops with a view to preserving the emirate’s public safety, cleanliness and civilised appearance and to execute new development projects in their place.
