A tryst, a plot, and a desert murder

SHARJAH // A man and woman allegedly involved in an illicit relationship have been charged with murdering the woman's husband and dumping his body in the desert. Police found the body of the Pakistani man four months ago in the desert between the sixth and seventh interchanges of the road to Al Dhaid. Now, Sharjah Police claim they have enough evidence to prove that the man's wife and companion - both in custody - killed the husband.

Brig Yousef Musa al Naqbi, the director of Sharjah CID, said that after arresting the victim's Indian wife they learnt that she had been seeing another man, aged in his 30s and also from India. The companion was arrested last week. Police said the wife continued to deny any wrongdoing, but that they believe the pair conspired to kill the husband because he was blocking their relationship. Brig al Naqbi said the pair plotted to ply the man with alcohol, then to suffocate him while drunk. Once he was drunk, they allegedly tied the husband up, bundled him into the car and drove him to the desert.

There, according to police, the wife is suspected of beating him to death with a metallic instrument. They then dumped his body in the desert, and took their car to a washing bay where they cleaned it of blood and other evidence, police believe. After finding the body, the police immediately arrested the wife. They began hunting for her companion after reading text messages on her phone between them.

Brig al Naqbi said the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
