A 62-year-old man is accused of repeatedly raping his maid over a period of eight months before she escaped in October this year and reported him to police, heard Dubai Criminal Court.
Records show that the woman, 52, arrived in the country in September last year to work for the Emirati defendant, who works with the UAE Armed Forces.
"He started threatening me and said that he will hurt me if I didn't do as he wanted," said the Filipino plaintiff.
She told prosecutors that he started abusing her at the beginning of March. She said that, in one such incident, he came to her room on October 4 this year at around noon, ripped off her clothes and allegedly raped her as she begged him to stop.
"I begged him, but he said he would beat me up and hurt me. I couldn't scream, and I didn't tell anyone what happened to me because I was scared and confused," said the maid, according to court records.
On the same day, the maid said she managed to escape and headed to Al Qusais police station and filed a report.
The defendant was not present in court to face rape charges.
A medical report confirmed that the defendant's DNA was found in samples of evidence taken from the woman's body; however, the report said there were no bruises on her body to confirm that she had been physically assaulted.
The accused denied the charges and said that he is a married man who had treated his maid with decency since she began working for him.
"I have always been kind to her and paid all of her wages on time. On the day of the incident, I returned home and she wasn't there so I called her several times, but her phone was switched off. I was surprised when police arrested me near my Al Qusais home on October 10 and took me to the station. When we arrived there, they said I had raped her, which is not true," said the man told police.
He also said during interrogations that he has no idea why the maid would accuse him of such a deed. "I never touched her in any way. I am a married man and I respect my wife and myself and would never allow myself to commit such [an act]. But I remember telling her that I will send her back to her country because she is not good at her job. I think this is the reason for falsely accusing me of rape," he said.
Records show that the defendant lives in one room of a three-bedroom apartment, while three Filipino women live in the other two rooms.
"When I'm not at work, I am home with my wife. I was never home alone with the women," he said in records; however, records did not explain why he and his wife shared an apartment with the other women.
The next hearing will be on December 24 to summon the defendant.
