DUBAI // About 5,000 construction workers on Sunday returned to work at a site in Dubai after contracting company officials agreed to improve their work environment, said the Ministry of Labour.

The company said it would provide refrigerators for drinking water, meals and increase the number of toilets.

The ministry, the emirate’s Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs and Dubai Police worked out the agreement on the demands between the company’s officials and the workers, said Maher Al Obad, an assistant undersecretary at the ministry.

He said the workers dropped their demand for higher wages after being told it was illegal.

The ministry said contracts must be adhered to.
