250 road incidents in Dubai during first 5 hours of Ramadan

DUBAI // Dubai Police received 2,419 traffic reports and recorded 250 incidents during 5 hours on the first day of Ramadan.

Lt Col Khazraj Al Khazraji, director of the command and control centre, urged motorists to drive safely, especially in the hours leading up to iftar, when Muslims break their fast.

“Of the 250 traffic accidents, two were serious and the others were minor,” he said, reiterating that people should abide by the traffic rules.

The reports occurred between 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Monday.

Lt Col Al Khazraji said residents should only call Dubai Police’s 999 hotline if is an emergency but they can contact 901 for general enquiries.

“Non-emergency calls to the 999 emergency number can be a waste of time and effort, as it is specialised in dealing with urgent matters and other people’s urgent concerns,” he said.
