Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, spoke of his desire to strengthen ties with the UAE during a meeting with Emirati business leaders in Abu Dhabi.

Mr Erdogan explored the prospects of enhancing investment opportunities during a meeting at Emirates Palace held before he concluded his two-day official visit on Tuesday.

He was joined by Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed, member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The president said the UAE was his country’s leading trading partner in the Gulf and he aimed to build on those strong links.

He highlighted a shared interest in technology between the countries, which he said offered a viable opportunity for increased co-operation.

“With a population of 85 million, Turkey boasts a growing manufacturing, robust infrastructure and a privileged geographical location,” Mr Erdogan said.

The Turkish President held talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on his arrival in the country on Monday.

He met Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, at Expo 2020 Dubai on Tuesday.

Sheikh Hamed welcomed President Erdogan and his delegation to the UAE and said his visit, coupled with Sheikh Mohamed’s November trip to Turkey, would pave the way for a promising new era of co-operation.
