ABU DHABI // Sixteen shops in the Bani Yas souq went up in flames on Friday afternoon, though no deaths were reported.
Civil Defence’s Captain Abdulla Al Tamimi said a report of the fire came in at about 3pm.
The large fire was put out but investigations into its cause are still ongoing, Capt Al Tamimi said.
He praised the firefighters that brought it under control and urged residents to abide by fire safety regulations.
He also thanked the public for trying to help extinguish the fire but said they should leave such matters to firefighters in future.
Helicopters transferred live coverage of the incident to the Civil Defence operation rooms, which was able to use the footage to work out logistical matters.
